Upload Returns
To upload a current or prospective investment’s returns, go to Libraries and click on the "Upload Returns" button at the top right side of the screen. You can either upload a file or copy/paste directly into the uploader. We support multiple file formats, including .csv or .xls. To view a sample template of how to organize your data, click on “Download Sample Data.”
Once the data is loaded, you will see a preview of your file and can click “ACCEPT & CONTINUE.” Please note that the preview window only captures the top portion of data in your file.
The Uploader will then scan the file to identify the following:
Metric type: Return, Price
Format: Percentage, Decimal
Currency: United States Dollar, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Swiss Franc, Chinese Yuan, European Euro, Pound Sterling, Japanese Yen, Norwegian Krone, New Zealand Dollar, Swedish Krona
If you would like to change any of these suggested inputs, simply click the drop down arrows to update:
2) Data and Proxies
We will need at least 3 years of history to run regressions on monthly returns (and 6 months for daily returns). The uploader will detect any investments with short return streams and highlight missing periods in gold. You can either upload a longer return history or set up a proxy to backfill the returns.
To do so, click the “Add a proxy” button and then enter the benchmark you would like to use. After searching for a particular investment, you may either select a benchmark currently in the Investment library or select a fund you had already uploaded prior to this step. Under Observations, the period where the proxy is being used will now be highlighted in blue.
3) Error Detection
Consistency checks are performed on uploaded data to assist in identifying and amending values that may be incorrect. Common errors include blanks and off formats. You can correct any errors directly in the uploader when prompted.
Once all errors are fixed and proxies are entered, if applicable, you can click “Accept & Upload.”
Note: If you’d prefer to not upload the real names of the underlying investments or managers, feel free to anonymize them.
